How to do the keto diet for mental illness (beginner's guide) #1: What is keto?

Depression? Bipolar? Schizophrenia? Your brain isn't broken. It's starving for energy.
I healed my own bipolar disorder with a ketogenic diet. This is episode one of my beginner's series on keto for serious mental illness.
Today we cover the two foundational concepts: what a ketogenic diet actually is, and why it works. We get into the metabolic shift from glucose to ketones, how insulin resistance develops, and why researchers now believe it may be a root driver of conditions like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and depression.
This is the first of many episodes. Coming up: ketone tracking, what to eat, fat to protein ratios, intermittent fasting, and how to actually implement this diet in real life.
