On the 19th of August the Treasury buybacks were doubled to 4 billion dollars per issue, the very next day Bessent said the figure could be much larger, and this week reports say a 1 trillion dollar fund could be tapped to support the operation. Three escalations in one week is the tell: even with the Treasury standing behind the paper, the buyers still do not want it.
