Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said U.S. President Donald Trump and the United States have adopted what he described as a more realistic position on the war in Ukraine, marking a notable shift in Washington's approach to the conflict.
Speaking during the G7 Summit in France, Carney revealed he had held seven or eight discussions with Trump over the previous 36 hours, covering a wide range of topics including trade, energy and industrial policy.
Carney also said Trump reacted positively to Canada's policy framework on Chinese electric vehicles, while highlighting Ottawa's ambitions to expand LNG production and strengthen international trade ties.
The Canadian leader said his government remains on track to produce 150 megatons of LNG by the end of the year and expressed hope of finalising a trade agreement with India ahead of the G20 Summit in November.
The comments come as G7 leaders continue discussions on Ukraine, global economic stability, trade relations and energy security.
