Matt from Muscle Discord has been using AI to predict bodybuilding show results before the scores come in. It gets it right every time.

Matt Jansen, founder of Muscle Discord and one of the most analytically minded voices in bodybuilding media, makes a case that will make a lot of judges uncomfortable. During his live streams, he takes pre-judging screenshots, feeds them into ChatGPT before any results are announced, asks it to pick the winner — and it has called it correctly every single time.

The way it breaks down a physique is not vague. It will tell you that one competitor has sharper conditioning from the rear, better lower lat separation, more trapezius detail, a tighter and flatter midsection. It is working through the same criteria a judge is supposed to work through, without the politics, without the fatigue, without the grudges.

That is the part Matt focuses on. Human judges carry history. A competitor who disagreed with a judge backstage two years ago does not get sent to ninth place, but he might get quietly dropped from second to fourth. That is a gap the judge can defend, and everyone in the room knows exactly what happened. ChatGPT does not hold grudges. It does not have favourites. It does not remember who talked back to it after the show.

His proposal is not to remove judges entirely. It is a hybrid model, the same approach the Olympics already uses in figure skating — where camera systems verify what the human eye misses. AI that can measure symmetry precisely, count rotations, confirm what was actually on stage versus what a tired human eye registered, used alongside experienced judges rather than instead of them.

The pushback is coming. But so is the technology.
