Wonder Valley has already expanded to nearly 65 square kilometres — larger than the City of Red Deer. It would require 9 gigawatts of power to operate, enough to power more than 6 million Canadian homes.
And the water? The facility has been approved to use 6 million cubic metres per year — the equivalent of everything that flows over Niagara Falls every 35 minutes.
The Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation raised serious concerns and challenged the water licence. That challenge was dismissed. No provincial environmental impact assessment has been required.
