Pune is taking a major step toward becoming a safer and smarter city. Under the ‘CCTV Surveillance and Safe City’ initiative, around 619 AI-based cameras are being installed across 178 sensitive locations. These include hills, ghats, riverbanks, and isolated areas to strengthen crime prevention and monitoring. The move gained urgency after a 2024 incident in Bopdev Ghat. With a budget of ₹79.40 crore, the project aims to enhance policing, improve emergency response, and ensure better safety for citizens, especially women.
