Treasury Committee, 8 July 2026: the Chief Secretary to the Treasury was asked what it costs to hit the NATO target — and confirmed the Treasury has not started the work.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies prices it at 3p to 4p on all rates of income tax, or 4p on VAT — £794 to £1,059 a year off a median full-time wage.
