The Treasury released £6 billion to buy back military housing on condition that £9.2 billion went into repairs over ten years, and £800 million of that has now been re-profiled into the next Parliament — roughly £28 from every household in Britain, pushed past the next general election. Asked repeatedly how much will actually be spent this financial year, Director General Finance Aneen Blackmore could not give the Committee a figure. Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, Blake Stephenson and Rupert Lowe question Jeremy Pocklington, Rupert Pearce and David Brewer, with nearly one in five service homes standing empty.
