It's two months on from tax day, but many still have questions and concerns.

Among them, lawmakers who prompted the Michigan Treasury for answers during a state House Oversight Committee hearing.

Officials from the department acing tough questions on what lawmakers say are deficiencies.

"Why aren't the taxpayers receiving their money, their refunds from the state of Michigan in a timely fashion," Rep. Angela Rigas (R-Caledonia) said.

The Treasury responding by explaining its new system for filings.

"This new system is more efficient at identifying taxpayer reporting inconsistencies," Katina Litterini, director of the Treasury's Tax Administration Services Bureau, said. "To date, we were able to flag over 68,000 returns for an address match error. We had enhanced tools that were deployed for ID theft and fraud protection."
