Have you ever been told you're "too sensitive," feel overwhelmed by loud environments, absorb other people's emotions deeply, or need more time to recharge after social interactions? You may relate to the traits of a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP).
In this insightful conversation, we sit down with psychologist, Meeti Salot, to explore what it truly means to be a Highly Sensitive Person. We discuss the science behind high sensitivity, how it differs from shyness, introversion, anxiety, and emotional vulnerability, and why sensitivity is not a weakness but a unique way of processing the world.
Meeti Salot is a counselling psychologist and Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) coach, practising since 2024, with over 1,500+ hours of counselling experience across schools, community spaces, juvenile justice homes, and private practice. She works with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults, and is deeply committed to holding space for the full human experience, including identity, emotions, beliefs, neurodivergence, and sensitivity without judgment or pressure to “toughen up” or conform.
She currently serves as a Senior Specialist at eleVibe, where she supports adolescents and parents in navigating academic pressure, emotional overwhelm, self-esteem, and skill development. Her work spans students from KG to Grade 12, and includes collaboration with parents, teachers, and support staff across school and private institutional settings.
Alongside this, Meeti runs her private practice, Meet Mind, and is experienced in counselling, therapy, and workshops with diverse populations. What distinctly shapes her work is that Meeti is also a Highly Sensitive Person herself. She brings both clinical expertise and lived experience into conversations around sensitivity, advocating for a shift from pathologizing sensitivity to understanding it as depth, intuition, and emotional intelligence.
In this episode, you'll learn:
- What defines a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)
- The signs and characteristics of high sensitivity
- The difference between sensitivity, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm
- How childhood experiences can shape sensitivity
- The challenges HSPs face in relationships, parenting, and the workplace
- Why highly sensitive people often struggle with boundaries and emotional exhaustion
- Practical strategies to manage overstimulation and prevent burnout
- How to embrace sensitivity as a strength rather than seeing it as a limitation
Whether you're an HSP yourself, know someone who is, or work in a helping profession, this episode offers valuable insights into understanding and supporting highly sensitive individuals.
Join us for a thoughtful discussion that challenges common misconceptions about sensitivity and provides practical tools for thriving in a world that often values toughness over emotional awareness.
