A lot of guys think tapering pants is as simple as turning them inside out, pinning the leg slimmer, sewing a new seam, and cutting off the extra fabric. And sometimes that works. But if you take too much fabric from one seam, make the taper line too sharp, or ignore how the knee and calf move, the pant leg can get pulled out of balance.

That’s when the side seam starts rotating toward the front or back of your leg. The leg opening sits crooked. The calf pulls weird. The inseam doesn’t sit where it used to. Your pants are technically smaller, but the fit looks off.
