Do you need easy ways to save money without making life harder? In this episode of Debt Free, Cashed Up and Laughing, I’m sharing 30 quick savings ideas you can use straight away to save 10 cents, 50 cents, $1 or more at a time.
This show is part of the Cheapskates Club 10 Cents a Day Savings Challenge — a simple, gentle way to prove that small savings really do add up.
Saving money does not always begin with a big budget overhaul. Sometimes it begins with making one pantry meal, using leftovers for lunch, air drying one load of washing, taking snacks from home or pausing before an impulse buy.
In this show we will look at:
🥫 Grocery savings ideas
• Make one pantry meal
• Use leftovers for lunch
• Swap takeaway for homemade fakeaway
• Make soup from vegetables that need using
• Bake simple lunchbox snacks
• Use powdered milk in baking
• Stretch mince meals further
• Turn stale bread into breadcrumbs
• Plan meals around food already open
• Freeze food before it spoils
🏡 Household savings ideas
• Make or refill a MOO cleaning spray
• Use less laundry powder for everyday washing
• Air dry washing when practical
• Turn off appliances and chargers not in use
• Use the slow cooker for simple budget meals
• Check the pantry before shopping
• Use cloths instead of paper towel
• Mend one item instead of replacing it
• Refill instead of rebuying
• Use what is already in the cupboard
🛑 Spending pause ideas
• Try one no-spend day
• Wait 24 hours before buying something unplanned
• Remove saved card details from online stores
• Delete one tempting shopping app
• Take snacks and water from home
• Borrow instead of buying
• Use your local library
• Shop your wardrobe
• Use gift cards or loyalty points intentionally
• Ask yourself: “Do I need this today?”
You do not need to try all 30 ideas at once. Choose just one grocery saving, one household saving and one spending pause to try this week. Then record your savings as part of the 10 Cents a Day Savings Challenge.
Ten cents a day adds up to $36.50 over a year.
One dollar a day adds up to $365 over a year.
Little savings matter. Little habits matter. And every small choice can help you live well, spend less and stress less.
