At 92 years old, I’ve learned that careful grocery planning is one of the best ways to save money, reduce food waste, and still eat healthy, delicious meals every day. In today’s video, I’m sharing exactly how I create my monthly grocery list on a fixed Social Security income and how I keep my grocery budget between $150 and $175 a month without feeling deprived.
I believe frugal living is about being organized, thoughtful, and only buying what you truly use. I only grocery shop once a month, and I plan every meal carefully so nothing goes to waste. I’ll show you how I keep track of pantry items, frozen foods, produce, and household staples to avoid impulse purchases and unnecessary spending.
In this video, I talk about:

Monthly grocery shopping on Social Security
Frugal grocery budgeting tips
Meal planning for seniors
How to avoid food waste
Portion control and freezer meal storage
Budget-friendly meals and recipes
Shopping smart and avoiding impulse buying
Pantry organization and grocery list planning
Stretching your grocery budget
Cooking for one on a budget
Affordable healthy eating for seniors
Freezing leftovers and meal prep ideas

I share some of the exact foods I buy every month, from eggs, cereal, onions, green peppers, carrots, and cabbage to frozen vegetables, brownie mix, and my favorite pork chops. I also explain how I portion and freeze meals so I always have nourishing food ready without wasting anything.
I’ve always believed you can live well on a budget if you plan ahead and stay disciplined. When my children were little, we lived carefully and stuck to a grocery budget, and those habits have stayed with me my entire life. Even now, I still write every grocery item down by hand, check my pantry and freezer before ordering, and make sure I only buy food I truly enjoy and will actually eat.
Frugal living doesn’t mean going without. It means being intentional with your money so you can still enjoy the things that matter most. For me, that has always been books, travel, family, and homemade comfort food.
