Spring 2026 was genuinely one of the strongest anime seasons in recent memory, and this video is my full breakdown of everything I watched — ranked by what I personally hyped up and would recommend, not just what's technically the "best written." The top of the list was brutally competitive, with five shows that could each have held a number one spot in a weaker season.
Fire Force's final season brings incredible themes and bold writing, but when you're competing against the combat choreography of Jujutsu Kaisen and Sentenced to Be Hero, the battle quality gap is real. Frieren continues to be one of those rare shows that rewards patience and emotional investment — it's peak anime for the right audience, and I'm planning to rewatch it in dub with my wife. Meanwhile, Sentenced to Be Hero came out of nowhere to become the most impressive show of the season, with a cast of twisted, morally complex characters that are exactly my type.
The real dark horse of the season was Tomo Wants to Be a Common Writer — a niche, nostalgic love letter to tokusatsu fans that had me more hyped than I expected. And if you're sleeping on Chain Soldier and My Hero Vigilante, you need to fix that immediately. This was a stacked season, and I'm not apologizing for any of my rankings.
